Absolute Introduction to Hand Appliqué:A Workshop Unsure whether you want to add hand-applique to your repertoire? This workshop gives you an opportunity to work on one heart block to learn the basic freezer paper/needle turn method. Tuesday, December 1 6:30p-9:00p FREE Kit supplied in class. Absolutely Beginning Hand Appliqué Give yourself a treat! This popular introduction to hand appliqué through the creation of a many-hearts sampler is offered again here. Jan demonstrates and discusses the techniques for freezer paper, needle turn, and reverse appliqué. You will create heart blocks that can be stitched together to make a lovely wallhanging — or perhaps you’ll make "tons" and create a full-sized quilt! Saturday, April 11 OR July

Absolutely Beginning Hand Quilting Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes, and we prove this is true. Hands on hand-quilting is the best way to start. Patti always has fun and poignant tips for you in her class offerings Saturday, January 16 9:30a-4:00p A great stash-bashing project. Carolyn has made several quilts using this pattern. One used a fat quarter bundle that she had been hoarding and added a few more fat quarters from her stash for her Asian inspired quilt. The lastest one uses Christmas fabrics and was inspired by the chaotic tearing into presents on Christmas morning. The size and theme possibilities are endless: table topper, lap quilt or larger – just add more blocks. Great for beginners, there are only two blocks! Judy Niemeyer quilts always take center stage at JLC. Dragon Star, an exciting new look to a collection of traditional designs features floating spikes, floating geese, curved, strip and traditional piecing. Jan, in the Director's seat, will guide you through Judy's paper piecing process, then focus on step-by-step tips and techniques unique to the particular pattern. The class settingh provides an opportunity to accomplish a great deal with support and encouragement from Jan and Lou. There is considerable pre-class preparation, so register early to be ready for class! Tuesdays, October 27, November 3 AND November 10 6:30-9:00pm Whether you are a Block of the Month participant or not, you are invited to this fun class. Offered once this term, Shirley will help you with fusible appliqué techniques needed to complete your blocks, or a project from a suitable pattern of your choice. Fusible appliqué is fast and it’s very satisfying to complete a project and have it hanging quickly. Tuesday, November 10 6:30p-9:00p Here's your chance to learn paper foundation piecing at its simplest! Judy Niemeyer's Indian Summer is fast, fun and easy using her techniques. .Katrina introduces you to Electric Quilt 6.0 in this hands-on workshop on location at JLC. No EQ experience required in the first of these on-going opportunities. At this point, you should own EQ6, have it loaded and activiated, and have an external mouse. If you have a portable laptop, that’s terrific. Otherwise, we’ll buddy up. If you are new to EQ, and miss the September session we will need to arrange for a "catch up session." Contact Lou for more information. Students must bring a laptop computer with EQ6 loaded and activated and an external mouse, or buddy up. Students must know how to use this laptop computer. The September session does not require having a laptop, but it is required by October, or you can buddy up. Saturdays, September 19, October 17, and/or November 21 3:00p-6:00p Join Kathy in a very full day of technique and skill-building as you work on a stunning eight-pointed lone star quilt done the Jan Krentz way. Quilt artists new to working with diamond shapes as well as seasoned quilt makers will enjoy the process of these quick-pieced stars. Tuesday, October 6 9:30a-4:00p LIMITED SPACE! CLASS NEARLY FULL! Jan Krentz’s Lone Star Quilts & Beyond book is a required script, $27.95. Encore after encore! This class offered at least once each term provides the basics for machine quilting. You create a lovely wholecloth sampler wallhanging in this marathon machine quilting class. This is an extremely intense, information-filled class! You will work very hard as you absorb new techniques, become more familiar and comfortable with your machine as well as your project, and gain a new respect for your darning foot and walking foot*. By the end of the day, although you will be pooped, you will be much more confident in the machine quilting realm - and have quite a lovely project to show off! Saturday, September 19 9:30a-4:00p NOTE: You MUST come in to pre-mark your quilt top PRIOR to class. Your project needs to be safety pin basted prior to class as well. A limited number of pre-marked kits are available for $39.98. You must reserve these.*It is IMPERATIVE that you know PRIOR to class that your walking foot and darning foot work properly with your machine. Thanks! If you’ve had the opportunity to take a Machine Quilting 1 class and/or done a bit of machine quilting on your own, you may want to go a step further to enhance your MQ dexterity with this great exercise class. Pam encourages you to take Wendy’s MQI class because she knows the more exposure to machine quilting you have, the better your work will be. You will work on gaining control of a desired pattern…and, as in MQI you will have a good day’s work in at the close of class. Offered twice this term: Saturday, October 3 9:30a-4:00p (Be comfortable with your machine) Turn squares into circles and back into squares...and quilt it as you go! No batting, templates, pattern, nor book buy! ...And no quilting fees! Just fabric and thread and fun to be had in this all day class. Saturday, January 16 9:30a-4:00p Log Cabins are one of the oldest traditional patterns around. We’ve never met a Log Cabin pattern we didn’t like! This Log Cabin quilt designed by Barbara Brackman for Moda University has a distinct personality. You will use Moda’s Honey Buns (TM) (or strips from your private reserve), Triangles on a Roll or Thangles, and quick piecing methods. This is great for beginners, lots of post Thanksgiving therapy for seasoned quilters. We meet once each month at JLC. This is a small, informal and supportive group, open to all cancer diagnosed patients regardless of quilting experience. This is a free class offering courtesy of JLC. All supplies have been donated by our fellow quilters. Students will create one small 9x12 inch journal quilt during each class session. As always, no experience is necessary and bring a friend or family member. All supplies will be provided for you. If you prefer to use your own sewing machine, you are welcome to bring it along. Using many shades of a color can give your quilt a lovely hand-dyed look. This quilt does best with Batiks, marbled or other monochromatic fabrics. is a required script This quilt is designed for quilters to work in pairs. At the end of the project you and your partner will each have a quilt top you jointly work on. Throughout the pattern, you and your partner will be doing different tasks. Each part of the team is equally important to the outcome of the final project.
